Itinerary

Day 1Rammang Rammang Karst - Makassar City Tour (L)

Arrival in Makassar, meeting service and transfer directly to Rammang Rammang area. Before reach the Rammang Rammang port, first we will visit the stone tower garden. You’ll find the unique landscape and the typical of tower karst. In the region, limestone hills tower high with challenging cliffs. Arriving in Rammang Rammang Port, continue with a boat trip to discover the village. While crossing the river, we can enjoy the view of towering cliffs. The village has the beautiful landscape, there are the green rice fields surrounded by karst mountains, which keeps you busy if you love photography. You will also meet friendly local people who are working on their fields. We will visit one of the local people’s house to feel how peaceful and calm staying there. Continue with visiting Leang-leang is part of hundreds prehistoric caves scattered in the hills rock. Dated approximately 4,000 – 8,000 BC. You’ll find the signs of very old civilization stored in the cave. Lunch enroute.
After lunch (if time permitted), continue your tour visiting Fort Rotterdam (a Ford of Makassar which are built on 1545), Paotere Harbour (a traditional harbour of Makassar), and The Famous Pantai Losari (Losari Beach). Transfer back to port in the afternoon.

Group Traveller

I worked with Hernan at IndoGlobal Tours to organize a small group tour for when our cruise ship was docked in Makassar, Indonesia. Hernan was very easy to work with and responded to any email communications very quickly.

Our group of 7 was given a nice comfortable, air conditioned van for the tour with a driver and guide. We first transferred from the cruise dock to the Rammang Rammang area in the karst hills where we had a small wooden boat cruise up the river to a local village. Although a long drive from the pier, this boat ride was the real highlight of the day as we saw amazing rock formations, vegetation, and some wildlife. After visiting the village and learning about local life, we went to the Leang karst garden where we were surrounded by colorful butterflies as we look as the gardens and later the ancient cave paintings. After lunch, we returned to the city and visited Fort Rotterdam before heading back to the ship. It proved to be a very informative and interesting day.

I highly recommend IndoGlobal tours to anyone wanting to organize either a solo or small group tour in the area. The price for our tour was a third of what the cruise ship was charging for their shore tours and we could customize it as we wanted.

We had a wonderful excursion in Indonesia on Sulawesi. We first took a 40 minute drive outside of Makassar to Rammang Rammang area with high limestone hills towering cliffs. At the Rammang Rammang Port, we continued via small wooden motorized boat to the village built over rice fields, surrounded and tucked into the karst mountain cliffs. We then visiting Leang-leang prehistoric caves dated approximately 4,000 – 8,000 BC, with prehistoric wall paintings, followed by lunch in a local traditional restaurant. We travelled back to Makassar to the harbor port to see the Old Ships, then a final stop at Fort Rotterdam. Our guide Odin and driver Maman were both excellent!!
